Former Houston coach joins Miami staff

MIAMI, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Former Houston Texans head Coach Dom Capers was hired by Miami on Tuesday as a special assistant to the Dolphins head coach.

Capers spent the last four seasons as head coach of the Texans, posting an 18-46 record. He was fired following this past season after the team went 2-14.

"We're pleased to have someone as well-respected as Dom join the Dolphins," said Miami Coach Nick Saban. "He brings a wealth of knowledge to Miami and will be a valuable addition to our staff.

"Along with his extensive experience as a head coach in the league, Dom was an outstanding coordinator in Jacksonville and Pittsburgh, and I'm sure his contributions will help us continue to improve as a team."

Capers was head coach for the Carolina Panthers from 1995-98. He is 48-80 lifetime. He also served as defensive coordinator at Jacksonville (1999-2000) and Pittsburgh (1992-94).
