Davydenko, Kiefer to quarters in Aus. Open

MELBOURNE, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Russian Nikolay Davydenko fought back from a two-set deficit to outlast Dominik Hrbaty in a fourth-round match during Monday's play at the 2006 Australian Open.

The fifth-seeded Davydenko was down 6-4, 6-4 to the 12th-seeded Slovakian before rallying the next three sets by scores of 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 and advancing to a possible quarterfinal bout with World No. 1 Roger Federer.

Federer, the 2004 Australian Open titlist, will face unseeded German Tommy Haas during Monday's night session.

Also advancing to the quarters were 21st-seeded German Nicolas Kiefer, who bested pesky Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-3, and 25th-seeded Sebastian Grosjean, who drilled fellow Frenchman Paul Henri-Mathieu 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
