Canada and the U.S. play to a draw

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The United States Mens National Soccer Team played Canada to a scoreless draw Sunday night in San Diego in its first match leading up to this year's World Cup.

In one of the highlights of the match, Freddy Adu made his U.S. National Team debut, playing for 10 minutes and receiving a yellow card. At 16 years and 234 days, Adu became the youngest player ever to play for the national team.

The U.S., which moved up to seventh in the FIFA world rankings earlier in the month, ran its record to 11-8-9 against Canada in international friendlies, and has dominated the Canadians in recent years, with no losses in the last 12 games between the two nations.

As part of a month-long training camp in San Diego, the U.S. will next face Norway on Jan. 29 and will play Japan on Feb. 10 in San Francisco.
