PITTSBURGH, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Jeff Carter scored the winning goal and Robert Esche had 32 saves in his first game since Dec. 15 Saturday as Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh, 2-1.

R.J. Umberger also scored for Philadelphia as the Flyers snapped a four-game losing streak.

The game marked a return for Esche, who missed Philadelphia's last 17 games because of a groin injury. Petr Nedved had an assist in his first game with the Flyers since the team acquired him from Phoenix Friday in a trade for defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.

Philadelphia was without Peter Forsberg for a second straight game, as the star center sat out with a groin strain.

Colby Armstrong scored the lone goal for the Penguins, who have lost nine games in a row.
