NHL: N.Y. Rangers 3, Boston 2 (SO)

BOSTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Petr Sykora scored in the shootout and had a goal in regulation Saturday to help the New York Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins.

With the shootout tied at 1-1, Sykora, the sixth shooter for the Rangers, skated in on net and lifted a backhand shot over goaltender Tim Thomas.

Brad Isbister had a chance to keep the shootout going, but his wrist shot from the low slot was knocked away by Henrik Lundqvist to give the Rangers the shootout win.

Lundqvist finished with 29 saves for the Rangers.

Jason Ward also scored a goal for New York while Michael Nylander added two assists in the victory.

Thomas allowed two goals on 29 shots for the Bruins. Marco Sturm and Brad Stuart scored for Boston.
