NHL: Vancouver 8, N.Y. Islanders 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Todd Bertuzzi had a hat trick and Anson Carter added two goals and an assist Saturday to lead the Vancouver Canucks in an 8-1 rout of the New York Islanders.

Henrik Sedin had a goal and two assists for the Canucks, who have won four of their last five games. Jarkko Ruutu had a goal and an assist; Markus Naslund and Daniel Sedin each had two assists; and goalie Alex Auld stopped 36 shots.

Bertuzzi, who started his career with the Islanders (1995-98), scored twice in a span of 1:46 during the opening period and completed his second hat trick this season and the fifth of his career late in the second. His second goal was his 500th career point.

Alexei Zhitnik scored the lone goal for the Islanders, losers in nine of their last 11 games.
