Alabama's Davis out for the season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Alabama's All-Southeastern Conference forward Chuck Davis will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee.

Davis tore both his ACL and MCL in his right knee. Tuesday, he underwent surgery by Dr. Lyle Cain in Birmingham, Ala.

Davis suffered the injury seven minutes into Alabama's SEC opener against Ole Miss, a 71-61 loss on Jan. 7.

"It happened very quickly," said Davis. "I'm not sure what happened. I came down and felt a sharp pain. I kind of stumbled back and I really didn't know how hurt I was until I tried to take a step and my knee just felt a little shaky. I really didn't think it was as serious as it is."

The recovery time for the senior is expected to be three to six months.

"He is obviously done for the year so that's a tough blow for our team," said Coach Mark Gottfried.

Davis is the Crimson Tide's leading scorer this season, averaging 17.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 13 games.
