Marcus Vick arrested on firearms charge

SUFFOLK, Va., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Marcus Vick, who was dismissed from the Virginia Tech University football team last week, has been arrested on firearms charges.

Vick, 21, reported to a Suffolk magistrate's office Monday, was charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm and released on $10,000 bond, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Va., reported.

The mother of a 17-year-old boy claimed that Vick pointed a gun at her son during an altercation Sunday night at a fast-food restaurant in Suffolk, Va.

Vick's attorney confirmed the arrest to the newspaper but declined further comment.

Vick, an all-Atlantic Coast Conference quarterback who led Virginia Tech to an 11-2 record this past season, was cut from the university's football team last week, a few days after he stepped heavily, and apparently intentionally, on the leg of an opposing player at the end of a play during the Gator Bowl.

The incident led to his dismissal because he was on probation with the school for charges in May 2004 of contributing to the delinquency of the minor for allegedly providing alcohol to three teenage girls and in July 2004 for possession of marijuana, a substance discovered when the quarterback was stopped for going 88 mph in a 65-mph zone.
