The two sides had until midnight Sunday to reach a contract agreement or Weaver could not sign with Los Angeles until May 1, making him free to sign with another team. Last week on its Web site, Los Angeles General Manager Ned Colletti had termed re-signing of Weaver "a long shot."

In his career, Weaver, who made earned $9.35 million with the Dodgers last season, has a record of 78-87 with 381 walks and 937 strikeouts in 1,396 innings and an ERA of 4.44.

In his two seasons with the Dodgers, Weaver was 27-24. In 2005, he was 14-11 with an 4.22 ERA, 43 walks and 157 strikeouts in 224 innings.
