EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Patrik Elias had two goals and two assists Thursday night to lead the New Jersey Devils over Montreal, 5-4.
Elias was playing in just his second game of the campaign. He had missed all of the season before the Devils' game against Florida on Tuesday after contracting Hepatitis A while playing in Russia last March.
Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski both had a goal and two assists, Zach Parise, Brian Gionta and Richard Matvichuk all assisted once while goalie Martin Brodeur added 16 saves for the Devils (18-18-5), who back-to-back wins for the first time since winning consecutive contests on Nov. 25 and 29.
Both Saku Koivu and Chris Higgins had a goal and an assist, Michael Ryder and Andrei Kastsitsyn also scored once, and Jose Theodore had 22 saves for the Canadiens (18-15-6), who have lost four straight and eight of their last 10 games.
