NHL: Buffalo 3, Tampa Bay 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Jochen Hecht had a goal and an assist Thursday night as Buffalo beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1.

Chris Drury and Henrik Tallinder added the other goals; Adam Mair, Paul Gaustad, Brian Campbell, Tim Connolly and Jason Pominville all assisted once; and goaltender Ryan Miller made 18 saves for the Sabres (27-12-2), who have won eight of their last 11 games and four of their last five contests against the Lightning.

Martin St. Louis scored Tampa Bay's only goal in the second period. Vincent Lecavalier and Ryan Craig had assists, and goalie Sean Burke made 20 stops on the 23 shots he faced for Tampa Bay (21-18-3), which lost for the first time on a four-game road swing which continues Saturday at Boston.

The Sabres out-shot Tampa Bay, 23-19. Buffalo went 2-for-5 on the power play while Tampa Bay was 0-for-3.
