COL FB: Texas 41, Southern Calif. 38

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Vince Young scored on an eight-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds remaining Wednesday night as Texas beat Southern California, 41-38, in the national title game at the Rose Bowl.

The game-winning score came on fourth down and capped a marvelous individual effort by Young, who for 200 yards and three touchdowns and added 267 yards on 30-of-40 passing to win the game's MVP Award. David Thomas had 10 receptions for 88 yards and Limus Sweed added eight catches for 65 yards for the second-ranked Longhorns (13-0), who won their first national championship since 1970 and broke the Trojans' 34-game winning streak.

Matt Leinart threw for 365 yards, one touchdown and one interception, Dwayne Jarrett added 10 receptions for 121 yards, LenDaleWhite had 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush compiled 177 all-purpose yards and one touchdown for USC (12-1).
