NHL: Washington 4, Philadelphia 3 (SO)

WASHINGTON, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Matt Pettinger and Brian Willsie both scored shoot-out goals Saturday as Washington beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-3.

Willsie also scored in regulation while both Dainius Zubrus and Alexander Ovechkin added one goal and one assist, Jamie Heward and Matt Pettinger assisted once, and goaltender Olie Kolzig made 34 saves for the Capitals (12-20-3), who broke a two-game slide. Ovechkin has scored a goal in five straight games.

Sami Kapanen had a goal and an assist, Peter Forsberg and Jeff Carter also scored once, and goalie Antero Niittymaki stopped 43-of-46 shots for the Flyers (24-8-6), whose five-game overall winning streak was broken.

The Capitals out-shot the Flyers, 48-40. Philadelphia went 2-for-8 on the power play while Washington was 1-for-8.
