EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Former Jack Adams Award winner Ted Nolan has tossed his hat into the ring for the vacant head coaching job in New Jersey.
According to the Buffalo News, Nolan has, through a friend, inquired about the Devils' job and is waiting for a response. Nolan spent two seasons as the Buffalo Sabres' bench boss in 1995-96 and 1996-97, but has not guided an NHL team since.
Nolan is currently the head coach and director of hockey operations for the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats.
The Devils will play their fourth game with president/general manager Lou Lamoriello at the helm on Monday when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.
The Devils won Lamoriello's first game as interim coach last Tuesday, defeating the Rangers in New York. Since then they have fallen to the Islanders and Thrashers.
Lamoriello has been behind the bench since Larry Robinson resigned his post due to health issues caused by stress.
