NHL: Colorado 2, NY Rangers 1

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Joe Sakic scored on a power play and a penalty shot in a 19-second span in the second period Sunday as the Colorado Avalanche beat the New York Rangers, 2-1.

Vitaliy Kolesnik made 29 saves in the victory for the Avalanche, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Colorado has won six consecutive games against the Rangers.

Ryan Hollweg scored the lone goal for the Rangers, who have lost their last two games. Kevin Weekes made 15 saves in the defeat.

New York outplayed Colorado in the third period, out-shooting the Avalanche, 9-3. The Rangers also had two power plays, but Kolesnik stopped every shot thrown at him.
