Indiana Pacers Artest fined by NBA

NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest has been fined $10,000 for making public statements detrimental to the National Basketball Association.

Artest told an interviewer that the club would be better off without him and said he wanted a trade.

Pacers President Donnie Walsh said the team will try to trade the 6-foot-7 Artest, who hasn't dressed for the team's last three games and is barred from working out with the club.

The 2004 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Artest made headlines last season when he charged into the crowd after fans after getting hit with debris during a game against the Detroit Pistons.

NBA Commissioner David Stern suspended Artest for the final 73 games of last season.
