NHL: Washington 3, Los Angeles 2

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Jamie Heward scored his second power-play goal of the game with 1:03 remaining to edge the visiting Washington Capitals past the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2.

Brian Sutherby scored short-handed and Alexander Ovechkin added two assists for the Capitals, who broke a two-game losing streak. Olaf Kolzig made 24 saves in the victory.

Eric Belanger and Sean Avery scored for the Kings, who have lost two of their last three and six of their last eight games. Jason LaBarbera made 26 saves in the loss.

The Capitals finished the game 2-for-11 on the power play, while Los Angeles scored twice in its nine power play attempts.
