Proposed RFK ballpark site ruled out

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball says it will not accept the land near RFK Stadium for a ballpark for the Washington Nationals.

The League's warning was issued after Mayor Anthony Williams said winning D.C. Council approval for a stadium at baseball's preferred location, South Capitol Street, would be difficult, the Washington Times reports.

Williams also said he is not considering moving the proposed baseball stadium elsewhere, including the site near RFK.

Several council members have urged the city to move the ballpark to the site near RFK, saying the change could save the city money, the report said. Baseball officials say they do not want to renegotiate the lease.
