NHL: Atlanta 5, Columbus 2

ATLANTA, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Ronald Petrovicky scored three goals Friday night to help Atlanta snap a season-high five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Columbus.

Ilya Kovalchuk assisted on all of Petrovicky's goals. It was Petrovicky's first career hat trick.

Marc Savard and Serge Aubin added goals; Marian Hossa, Slava Kozlov, Niclas Havelid, Eric Boulton and Jaroslav Modry added assists; and goalie Michael Garnett made 26 saves for the Thrashers (11-16-3).

Jaroslav Balastik and Nikolai Zherdev each scored once and Jan Hrdina, David Vyborny and Geoff Platt registered assists for the Blue Jackets (8-20-0). In goal, Pascal Leclaire stopped 11 of the 15 shots he faced before being pulled in the second period, and backup Marc Denis made 15 saves.

Atlanta out-shot Columbus, 31-28. The Thrashers went 2-for-6 on the power play while Columbus was 1-for-5.
