BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Maxim Afinogenov scored the game-winning goal in overtime Thursday night as the Buffalo Sabres edged Anaheim, 3-2.
Ales Kotalik tied the contest with a goal late in the third period. Thomas Vanek also scored once; Teppo Numminen, Brian Campbell and Jason Pominville each had one assist; and goaltender Martin Biron made 28 saves for the Sabres (18-10-1), who have won two in a row and seven of their last eight games.
Chris Kunitz and Joffrey Lupul both scored once for Anaheim. Lupul, Joe DiPenta and Scott Niedermayer each had one helper, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 28 of 31 shots for the Mighty Ducks (12-12-5), who have dropped two straight.
The Sabres barely out-shot Anaheim, 31-30. The Ducks were scoreless on four power play opportunities, while Anaheim was 1-for-2.
