The deal was made Wednesday at the winter baseball meetings in Dallas.

Burroughs, who was thought to be the Padres' future at third base, was the ninth overall pick in the 1998 draft. He spent time with Triple-A Portland last season, batting .290 in 32 games.

The son of former major leaguer MVP Jeff Burroughs hit .250 with one home run and 17 RBI in 93 games for the Padres in 2005 and is a career .282 hitter with 11 home runs and 133 RBI in 432 games.

"The change of scenery will really be good for Sean," Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Brazelton was chosen by the Devil Rays third overall in 2001 and was their Opening Day starter last season, when he was a paltry 1-8 in 20 games.
