NFL sack leaders less than household names

NEW YORK, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The NFL's most productive pass rushers this season are virtual unknowns led by New York's Osi Umenyiora and Oakland's Derrick Burgess, with 11 sacks apiece.

Indianapolis' Robert Mathis and Tennessee's Kyle Vanden Bosch have 10 ½ sacks each to join the top rusher ranks.

Vanden Bosch, who dropped zero quarterbacks in 2004 and just four in his first four seasons of an injury-riddled career, credits his blue-collar roots for this season's rise.

"I'm not nifty, athletically I'm not the most gifted guy, but I think I can outwork anybody," the Tennessee defensive end told USA Today.

Tennessee defensive line coach Jim Washburn said all four "play hard, they've got great endurance and they can run."

Washburn said New York's Umenyiora plays like "his butt is on fire."

While Umenyiora's play has been hot for the first-place Giants, his relations with the media have been chilly since he generally declines interviews.
