McEnroe returning to tennis tour

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- John McEnroe announced Thursday he will return to men's competitive tennis on the ATP Tour by playing doubles at the SAP Open, Feb. 13-19.

McEnroe, 46, has 77 doubles titles during his career, including 57 with longtime partner and fellow American Peter Fleming. He will team with Swede Jonas Bjorkman for the event. It will mark the first time that McEnroe and Bjorkman have ever teamed together.

"We are coming to play San Jose for one reason -- to win the SAP Open doubles title," said McEnroe. "Jonas and I are not doing this just for fun."

McEnroe returns to the SAP Open as the winningest doubles player in tournament history. It will be the first time he will play the SAP Open since 1991 when he played both the singles and doubles.

The last time McEnroe played doubles in an ATP tournament was 1994 when he reached the semifinals at Rotterdam with partner Boris Becker.
