NHL: Detroit 5, Los Angeles 2

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 22 of 24 shots in his first career NHL game to help the Red Wings past the Los Angeles Kings, 5-2.

Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who have won three of four. Chris Chelios, Mathieu Schneider and Henrik Zetterberg also scored in the triumph.

Joe Corvo had a penalty-shot goal and Sean Avery tallied with just over a minute remaining in the loss, only the Kings' third in nine games. Jason LaBarbera finished with 24 saves.
