Duke guard Nelson undergoes surgery

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- DeMarcus Nelson, a guard for No. 1 Duke's basketball team, underwent successful ankle surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss at least the next six weeks.

Nelson fractured right tibia while playing against Drexel in last Wednesday's semifinals of the NIT Tip-off Classic. He will be evaluated by Dr. Claude T. Moorman and Dr. Jim Nunley during his rehab.

"We will definitely miss DeMarcus," Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "We're pleased that the surgery was successful and that we can expect him to be back at 100 percent later in the season."

Nelson averaged 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in four games this season for the unbeaten Blue Devils (5-0), who play at Indiana Wednesday night as part of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
