NHL: Atlanta 5, Carolina 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Ilya Kovalchuk had two goals and two assists Sunday to lead the Atlanta Thrashers over Carolina, 5-2.

Kovalchuk has 17 goals and 17 assists for the season for Atlanta, which has won twice on the road against Carolina this year.

Marc Savard, Marian Hossa and J.P. Vigier also added goals and Michael Garnett made 27 saves for the Thrashers (10-12-2), who have won two in a row.

Aaron Ward picked up his first goal of the season and Andrew Ladd also scored once for the Hurricanes (15-7-1), who lost for the fourth time in their last five games. Goalie Martin Gerber allowed four goals on 19 shots faced.

Carolina out-shot the Thrashers, 29-20. Atlanta was 2-for-8 on the power play while Carolina went 0-for-6.
