ASHBURN, Va., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Wide receiver David Patten of the Washington Redskins has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his ailing right knee.
The procedure will cause the five-year veteran to miss the remainder of the season. The team indicated on its Web site that the surgery was performed at a hospital in Boston on Thursday and Patten was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list Friday.
Patten, who spent four years with New England before signing with the Redskins as a free agent last off-season, played in nine games in 2005, and made 22 catches for 217 yards.
Coach Joe Gibbs said Taylor Jacobs will start in place of Patten and James Thrash will likely line up as the team's third receiver.
Also Friday, the Redskins signed rookie wide receiver Rich Parson, who will play on Sunday against Oakland. Parson spent 10 weeks on the Redskins' practice squad.
