Dodgers name Colletti general manager

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday named Ned Colletti their new general manager.

Colletti just finished his ninth year as assistant GM for the San Francisco Giants. He was chosen by the Dodgers to replace Paul DePodesta, who was fired Oct. 29.

The Giants averaged 93 wins a season from 1997-2004, including winning the National League pennant in 2002 and division championships in 1997, 2000 and 2003.

Before joining the Giants in 1994, Colletti worked for the Chicago Cubs, beginning his Major League Baseball career in 1982. He worked in both the media relations and baseball departments in Chicago.

Dodger Assistant GM Kim Ng was trying to become the first woman general manager in the history of Major League Baseball. Texas Rangers Senior Advisor of Baseball Operations John Hart was also a candidate for the position, but he pulled out of the race Monday.
