Priest Holmes shelved for 2005

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Running back Priest Holmes of the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday was placed on the injured reserve list because of shoulder and neck ailments.

Team president Carl Peterson made the announcement after practice. He did not confirm a report by KSHB-TV in Kansas City, which said Tuesday night that doctors discovered lumps on Holmes' spine.

"This decision was made based on the advice of our medical staff and two expert outside medical consultants," Peterson said. "The consensus was that Priest should cease to have physical contact for a minimum of 30 days and will then be re-evaluated. At this time, we consider this not to be a career-ending injury."

Due to a concussion suffered on Oct. 30 against San Diego, Holmes sat out last Sunday's contest against Oakland. For the season, the former free agent out of Texas compiled 451 rushing yards on 119 attempts and six touchdowns. He rushed for a league-record 27 scores in 2003.
