BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Erik Cole scored on one of two penalty shots Wednesday night to help the Carolina Hurricanes top the Buffalo Sabres, 5-3.
Cole added two assists, Cory Stillman recorded three assists, Ray Whitney, Mike Zigomanis, and Justin Williams all tallied once and goaltender Martin Gerber made 41 saves for the Hurricanes (11-2-1), who are are 10
1 in their last 11 games.

Thomas Vanek score twice, Ales Kotalik once, and goalie Martin Biron stopped 17 shots for the Sabres (7-8-0), who have dropped four in a row.
Buffalo had a huge 44-22 advantage in shots on goal and went 3-for-4 on the power play while the Hurricanes were 1-for-3.
With their eight consecutive win, Carolina set a team record.
