NHL: Carolina 2, Florida 0

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Martin Gerber stopped 27 shots and Carolina scored twice in the final period to beat Florida Saturday night for its sixth straight win.

Rod Brind'Amour and Niclas Wallin each tallied in the game's final nine minutes to help the Hurricanes tie the franchise record for consecutive victories.

Roberto Luongo also made 27 saves in the loss, the Panthers' fourth in a row.

Both goalkeepers shined over the first 2 1/2 periods and the game was scoreless until the Hurricanes cashed in a power-play opportunity with 8:31 left.
