SONOMA, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Lonnie Nielsen shot a 6-under-par 66 on Thursday to take the lead after one round of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma, Calif.
This is the season-ending tournament on the Champions Tour.
Jerry Pate is alone in second place at 5-under-par 67. Pate is in search of his first title on the tour.
Bruce Fleisher bogeyed his last hole, but is in third at 4-under 68.
Dana Quigley, the tour's leading money winner, is 345 points ahead of Hale Irwin in the battle for the $1 million annuity which goes to the golfer with the most points in is the race for the Schwab Cup.
Eleven other players have a chance to win the title as well, but clearly the race is down to Quigley and Irwin.
Quigley, who three-putted on No. 18 Thursday, still managed a 3-under-par 69 and is part of a group in fourth place.
