RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Martin Gerber made 44 saves Monday night as the Carolina Hurricanes had a 3-2 victory to become the first team this season to beat the Ottawa Senators.
Eric Staal, Matt Cullen, and Frantisek Kaberle each scored for the Hurricanes, who have won all three home games this season. Carolina scored three unanswered goals to hand Ottawa its first loss of the season after the Senators opened with six straight victories.
That leaves Nashville (7-0) as the lone remaining unbeaten team in the NHL this season.
Carolina has now won four out of its last five games overall and ended seven-game (0-5-2) home winless skid against Ottawa.
