NFL names top weekly players

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Running back LaDainian Tomlinson of San Diego was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

He accounted for three touchdowns last Sunday in the Chargers' 27-14 win at Oakland, and was only the fifth player since the Super Bowl era began in 1966 to catch, rush and pass for a touchdown in a single game.

Also named in the AFC were Kansas City end Jared Allen (defense) and Denver punter Todd Sauerbrun (special teams). Sauerbrun had a 52.3-yard average on seven punts against New England.

The weekly NFC honors went to Seattle running back Shaun Alexander (offense), who rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns against Houston; Dallas cornerback Anthony Henry (defense), who had seven tackles, one interception and a forced fumble against the New York Giants; and Tampa Bay punter Josh Bidwell (special teams), who had a 48.9-yard average on seven punts against Miami.
