NHL: Montreal 4, Boston 3

MONTREAL, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Mike Ribeiro and Alexander Perezhogin each scored a power-play goal in the third period Tuesday as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins 4-3.

Michael Ryder and Saku Koivu also scored for Montreal. Goaltender Jose Theodore had 20 saves in the victory. Alex Kovalev had two assists for the Canadiens, who have won two of their last three games and won for the first time at home this season.

Boston defenseman Brian Leetch had a goal and an assist and became only the seventh defenseman in NHL history to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career.

P.J. Axelsson and Nick Boynton also scored for Boston. Andrew Raycroft allowed four goals on 38 shots for the Bruins, who have dropped two straight after a three-game winning streak.
