The team's former third-base coach was named the interim manager on Aug. 4, after Lee Mazzilli was fired. He will enter his 11th season with the team in 2006 after spending 19 years as a coach for the staffs of the New York Mets, Cincinnati and Seattle, before coming to Baltimore in 2001.

His run with the team is the second longest continuous tenure behind bullpen coach Elrod Hendricks.

Mazzilli was 52-56 this season, but was dismissed after the team dropped from first in the American League East to fourth place in the division.

In 55 games, Perlozzo, 54, compiled a record of 23-32. The Orioles ended the 2005 season by winning their last three games.

Mazzilli, hired in November of 2003, had a mark of 129-140 in 1 1/2 seasons.
