NHL: Atlanta 8, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Marc Savard had a goal and four assists Saturday night as Atlanta again routed the Washington Capitals, 8-1.

Former Capital Peter Bondra added two goals and one assist for the Thrashers, who completed a home-and-home weekend sweep. They beat Washington, 7-3, on Friday night.

Goaltender Mike Dunham had to make only 19 saves for Atlanta, which was playing its home opener and improved to 2-1.

Jamie Heward scored the lone goal and Olaf Kolzig had 34 saves for the Capitals, who were playing their first road contest of the season. They fell to 1-2.
