COL FB: Minnesota 23, Michigan 20

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Freshman Jason Giannini kicked a 30-yard field goal with one second left Saturday as Minnesota knocked off No. 24 Michigan, 23-20.

Laurence Maroney had 36 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown, Gary Russell carried 18 times for 128 yards, and Bryan Cupito was 11-of-23 for 139 yards and one touchdown. Jared Ellerson's first-half reception moved him into fourth place on Minnesota's career receiving-yards list.

The Golden Gophers now are 5-1, 2-1 Big Ten, and won the Little Brown Jug for the first time since 1986, breaking a 16-game losing streak against the Wolverines.

Mike Hart ran for 109 yards and a touchdown, Chad Henne was 14-of-29 for 155 yards, and Steve Breaston had 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Michigan (3-3, 1-2), which suffered its second home loss of the season.
