Cardinals place Hayes on IR

TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The Arizona Cardinals placed middle linebacker Gerald Hayes on injured reserve Thursday because of a knee injury.

Hayes was assigned to the practice squad on Sept. 8 after being released in the final roster cut on Sept. 3. The former fifth-round pick (135th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State never played a down this season.

In 2004, the 6-foot-4 inch, 272-pounder spent the first 13 weeks on the practice squad before playing in two of Arizona's three final games.

In the spring of 2005, Hayes played for the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe, where he recorded six sacks, 28 tackles and one forced fumble.

In another roster move, the Cardinals have re-signed linebacker Andy Stokes to the practice squad.
