Matt Holliday gets new deal with Rockies

DENVER, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rockies have picked up their 2006 contract option on outfielder Matt Holliday, but declined a similar option on catcher Todd Greene.

In 2005, his second season, Holliday, 25, ranked seventh in the National League with a .307 batting average. He hit 19 home runs and drove in 87 runs in 125 games, ranking second on the team in both categories, behind Todd Helton.

"Matt certainly stands for all the right things," said General Manager Dan O'Dowd on the team's Web site. "He's a great father, a great teammate, and has great character. If you look at what we're trying to do here, he is definitely symbolic of it because he's about the team, and if we were anything at the end of the season, we were a team."

Greene, a 10-year veteran, batted .254 with seven home runs and 23 RBI. He missed two months because of an injured right hamstring.
