SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Linebacker Jamie Winborn of the San Francisco 49ers has left the team and Coach Mike Nolan suggests he will be traded.
Winborn, a former starter, was beaten out by Andre Carter this season. Nolan said Winborn's departure was not a disciplinary procedure.
"There have been many teams that have inquired about Jamie," Nolan said. "He's been relegated to a backup role for us. Jamie sees himself as a starter, and out of respect to that position, I'm entertaining the possibilities of a trade. I'm working on that and obviously I don't want him to get injured in the case of another team having him. He's not practicing because he knows of that factor. That's his choice. I've let him know that I'm entertaining the other teams that have inquired."
Winborn is in his fifth NFL season, all with the 49ers, and has 190 tackles and nine sacks in his career.
