LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone was among Monday's first-round winners at the $585,000 Fortis Championships Luxembourg.
Unseeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze also won her first round.

Schiavone handled veteran American Lisa Raymond 6-4, 6-3, while Chakvetadze held off fellow non-seed Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 on the indoor hard courts at CK Sport Kockelscheuer.
This week's top seed is U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters, the winner of 16 straight and 22-of-23 matches.
Aussie Alicia Molik, who is not defending her title this year, defeated Russian Dinara Safina in last year's finale here.
The 2005 Luxembourg titlist will claim $93,000.
