MLB: N.Y. Mets 5, Washington 2 (10 inn.)

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Carlos Beltran hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Friday night to help the New York Mets beat Washington, 5-2.

The Nationals had sent the contest into extra innings on a two-run homer by pinch-hitter Carlos Baerga in the bottom of the ninth. Beltran and Cliff Floyd each ended with three hits for the Mets, who have won four of five.

Winner Roberto Hernandez, who blew his sixth save when he gave up Baerga's blast, rose to 8-6.

Ryan Zimmerman had three hits for the Nationals, who have dropped four of six. Loser Gary Majewski, who surrendered the game-winning homer, dropped to 4-4.

Before the contest, Major League Baseball suspended and fined Washington outfielder Jose Guillen. He was disciplined for arguing and making inappropriate comments from the dugout during a 6-3 win against the Mets on Sept. 14.
