Sweden's Hjorth leads LPGA in Oklahoma

BROKEN ARROW, Okla., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Sweden's Maria Hjorth shot a 7-under-par 64 Friday to take a one-stroke lead in the first round at the LPGA's John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic.

Hjorth, 31, set a new course record for the tournament. She had seven birdies and an eagle with two bogeys.

Hjorth leads Michelle Ellis and Karine Icher by one stroke. Defending champion Annika Sorenstam, a two-time winner here, is tied for fourth place at 68 with Rachel Hetherington and Diana D'Alessio.

Nineteen-year-old rookie Paula Creamer, who played in her first Solheim Cup last week for the U.S. team, is tied for seventh place at two-under-par 69. She is joined there by Kris Tamulis and Mi Hyun Kim.
