Gilder takes 2-shot lead in Senior event

HUNT VALLEY, Md., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Bob Gilder shot a course-record tying 8-under 64 Friday to take a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the senior Constellation Energy Classic.

Gilder's 64 tied the record J.C. Snead set in 2002, and matched last year by Hale Irwin, Wayne Levi and Jim Thorpe.

Dan Pohl and Tom Watson each shot 6-under 66 to share second place. Larry Nelson, the 2003 champion, is one stroke further back at 67, where he was tied for fourth place with John Bland, John Jacobs, Hajime Meshiai and D.A. Weibring.

"I hit the ball really solid today. I started off shaky, but kept the ball around the hole and gave myself a lot of chances," said Gilder, 54. "I made more putts than I have all year."

John Ross carded the day's only eagle, to help him shoot a 68. Bob Charles matched his age when he posted a 69.
