SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Tim Rattay threw two first-half TD passes Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers got new Coach Mike Nolan off to a good start with a 28-25 win over St. Louis.
Rattay completed 11-of-16 passes for 165 yards for the 49ers (1-0), who had just two wins last season. Fred Amey returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Mike Adams intercepted Marc Bulger with 59 seconds to play and the Rams in San Francisco territory.
Bulger had 362 yards on 34-of-56 passing and a pair of TDs for St. Louis (0-1), which held a 405-217 advantage in total yards. Jeff Wilkins kicked four field goals for the Rams.
Torry Holt had 10 receptions for 125 yards and Shaun McDonald picked up 73 yards on seven catches for the Rams. Steven Jackson rushed 19 times for 60 yards.
