MLB: Pittsburgh 8, Arizona 7 (12 inn.)

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Humberto Cota singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning Thursday afternoon as Pittsburgh beat Arizona, 8-7.

Jason Bay and Craig Wilson hit home runs and Nate McLouth had three hits, scored two runs and had one RBI for Pittsburgh.

The Pirates, playing their third game since the firing of Manager Lloyd McClendon this week, avoided a series sweep by breaking a 10-game home losing streak. It was the first win for interim manager Pete Mackanin.

Winning pitcher Rick White improved to 4-6.

Tony Clark hit two home runs and drove in five runs and Luis Terrero added a two-run blast for Arizona. Chad Tracy added three hits and scored one run.

Loser Buddy Groom fell to 0-1.

Arizona starter Dustin Nippert received a no-decision in his major league debut. He gave up three runs and five hits in five innings.
