ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Chad Henne completed 20-of-31 passes for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday as the fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines beat Northern Illinois, 33-17.
Mike Hart caught a 34-yard TD pass and also had a two-yard TD run. The Big Ten's top rusher from a year ago, Hart rushed 27 times for 117 yards, while catching four passes for 49 yards.
Michigan has not lost a season opener at home since a setback to Notre Dame in 1989.
Michigan's Jason Avant had nine receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown.
Garrett Wolfe scored on a 76-yard run and ended with 148 yards on 17 carries for Northern Illinois, which last season had its first bowl bid in more than two decades.
