NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The NFL has decided to relocate an upcoming game between the Saints and New York Giants from New Orleans to Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, N.J.

The Sept. 18 game was originally scheduled for the New Orleans Superdome. It was moved because of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina this week.

"There are many reasons for this decision, including recognizing that the overwhelming priority for public and private resources in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region in the weeks ahead must be the essential needs of the public and the restoration of the area's infrastructure," said Commissioner Paul Tagliabue in a statement on the league's Web site,

"We think the league's decision to move our game with the Saints to Giants Stadium will allow us an even greater opportunity to contribute (to the relief effort)," said Giants CEO John Mara.

The league has pledged $1 million to the relief effort, and veteran Baltimore defensive back Deion Sanders asked that each NFL player donate $1,000.
