Tulane shifts to Dallas, home games in air

DALLAS, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The Tulane University athletics department, hampered by the ravages of Hurricane Katrina, has set up shop 500 miles from home in Dallas.

Planning for the coming football season resumed in a hotel about a mile from Southern Methodist University Thursday.

"You don't plan for a 30-day road trip," Tulane Athletics Director Rick Dickson told USA Today. "Generally you have a 30-hour turnaround. We were in Jackson (Miss.) for three days and are now here for the foreseeable future."

Tulane and the professional New Orleans Saints, also working out of Texas at present, both play home games in the Superdome but that looks very much in doubt now. Tulane is supposed to host its home opener Sept. 17 against Mississippi State

Dickson said it was "very unlikely" the Mississippi State game would be played in New Orleans. "I don't know if we will have a home season," Dickson said.
